Potential Policy Directions

The NSW Liberals & Nationals have already released a number of policies that will make NSW communities stronger including:

  • Community Transport Plan:
Boosting community transport to allow those with disability, those in remote communities and our elderly, greater access to transport.
  • Libraries, the Hub of the Community:
Restoring funding and creating innovative libraries to recognise and build on the integral and active role they play in local communities.

In addition to these policies, some additional proposals the NSW Liberals and Nationals believe warrant examination to see how they can strengthen NSW communities include:

  • Introducing mandatory parental responsibility contracts and care plans for children identified by the Department of Community Services as being at-risk to help reduce the number of children taken into out of home care by the department.
  • Introduction of a personalised service delivery model for people with disability to provide increased choice and control whilst recognising client needs and the capacity of service users to manage the mix of available services. The current approach by the NSW Government often inhibits the ability for individuals to integrate their services to provide the best outcomes.
  • Assessment of the suitability and mix of available housing stock and ensure development of new social housing provides for our largest growing demographic of people aged over 65 years and the rising number of homeless people over the age of 35 years.
  • Greater devolution of Arts NSW powers and funding to Regional Arts Boards to provide regional communities with a greater say and enhance their cultural and creative opportunities.

  1. Has anybody really every sat down and looked at the map of Sydney. Surely its time to get a complete ring road from south the north via the outer edges built and while that is being done a rail system to match its reach with several existing train lines linked so cross city travel wont be the nightmare of today.
The vast majority of people in Sydney don't have easy access to a satisfactory train service and with talk of the population reaching 35m in Sydney within 50 years, Blacktown will be an Eastern Suburb and then it will be too late.
